Meerenai Shim Flute School My flute school is designed to educate flutists to become well-rounded musicians and poised flutists. In my flute school, students take private lessons with me, practice performing for one another in informal performance practice classes, work with professional pianist collaborators, and take group Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons. Students also perform in a formal studio recital twice a year. In my private lessons, students are taught technique and tone with special emphasis on rhythm. I also encourage students to develop their physical and mental self-awareness through body mapping and personal reflection. All new students are accepted into the flute school by audition and interview. Please call or email me to schedule an audition/interview. Expectations Students are expected to practice at least 5 days a week and participate in a group music ensemble or class in their schools or in the community. Students will be advised of the duration of practice required on an individual basis. Students who do not show an interest in self-motivated practice will be asked to leave the school. Tuition $900 per semester
for full-time students Cancellation Policy If a student needs to cancel a lesson for any reason, he or she must notify me by noon on the previous day. In this case I will give a make-up lesson. Otherwise, the student is required to pay for the lesson. If I cancel a lesson, a make-up lesson will be given. Instruments and Equipment Students need a reliable instrument, in good working order, to make proper progress and get pleasure from their playing. A poor quality instrument is not suitable for a serious student. Please read "Should I rent or buy a flute for my child or myself?" and "Why should I rent an instrument or buy one for $600 when I can buy a cheap one on eBay for $100? " Please contact me for recommendations for flutes, especially if you intend to purchase one. All students should have a music stand and a metronome. |
